Alderson Case Studies
Online Support During Discovery Phase of a Chemical Exposure
Lawsuit
PLACE: BOISE, IDAHO
One of the largest chemical manufacturers in the United States found itself fighting
a chemical exposure lawsuit. The stakes were high and there were over 200 witnesses
with potentially relevant testimony who needed to be deposed around the country
within six months. Teams of attorneys were deployed to various sites and needed
to stay in constant coordination with up-to-date exchanging of information.
Alderson provided online scheduling through a secure website available 24 hours
a day, seven days a week. In addition, transcripts, exhibits, and errata were available
at Alderson Online for retrieval and electronic delivery. The online system provided
the client with distinct benefits:
-
Attorney
teams could see which witnesses had already been deposed, which witnesses were coming
up, and who was responsible for their testimony without making a single phone call
to co-counsel.
-
Attorney
teams had immediate access to testimony because all drafts were posted at the end
of each day.
-
The manufacturer
saved significant money on paralegal overtime, paper copy charges for the transcripts
and exhibits, and overnight courier fees to the different locations.
Litigation Support in High Profile Corporate Scandal
Case
PLACE:
WASHINGTON, DC
Several law firms involved
in recent corporate scandals needed to depose multiple witnesses
in short order, with the public and press paying rapt attention along the way. Each
witness yielded the attendance of a number of attorneys from law firms located around
the country.
Attorneys needed to review
the testimony in real time, as did their colleagues and clients at office fronts.
Alderson dedicated two account representatives certified in real time technologies
and proficient in streaming Internet feed to the case. As required by Alderson
standards, representatives arrived on site one hour prior to deposition, enabling them to ensure
proper real time connection, and establishing the Internet
real time feed. Concerns were addressed immediately on site, and all equipment
was tested prior to the start of the testimony. This method was followed for each
witness.
As a result, clients and legal
teams saved thousands of dollars in travel costs without missing a single word.
Teams were able to prepare for testimonies while remaining in their home offices.
At the end of the first round of testimonies, the clients decided to take this approach
for the entire case with Alderson at the helm. A complicated and technically problematic
case was handled smoothly, enabling the client
to relax on the operational side and focus
on the testimony.
International Trade Commission
Testimony
PLACE: TAIPEI, TAIWAN
The day before New Year’s Eve,
2005, a prestigious AmLaw 100 firm from Washington, DC contacted Alderson with
a request to provide court reporting services in Tapei, Taiwan starting January
2, 2006, for a two week period of back-to-back deposition testimony. The case involved
an international patent and trademark investigation filed before the United States
International Trade Commission, and testimony was being heard from several key executives
from the Taiwanese textile company.
Alderson made arrangements
to send a court reporter with long-standing history of working on domestic proceedings
to Taiwan. The reporter, originally from Florida, had relocated to Osaka, Japan
and was able to fly to Taiwan within a day’s notice, providing real time services
to all attorneys present. In addition, Alderson provided a videographer and an interpreter,
both scheduled within a two-day period over the holiday weekend.
All transcripts, exhibits and
videos were processed, including video synchronization and exhibit linking for an
on time, five-business day delivery, enabling the client to meet its deadline and settle
the matter.
