MPS Group, Inc. (NYSE:MPS), a leading provider
of specialty staffing, consulting and business solutions, today announced the acquisition
of Alderson Reporting, a privately held company that is a leading provider of technology-enabled
litigation and conference support services, including national court reporting,
video conferencing and video depositions. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
Founded in 1938, Alderson revolutionized court reporting
when it carried the first stenotype machines used in Washington, DC to report
U.S. Senate committee hearings. Since that time, Alderson has been on the leading
edge of litigation technology and become a mainstay in the halls of the federal
government. It was the first company in Washington, DC to offer computerized transcripts;
the first to deliver magnetic media to the House of Representatives; the first to
offer PC-based software programs that attorneys could use with depositions, and
the first to archive transcripts and exhibits for remote access by attorneys. Alderson
utilizes leading-edge technologies to offer complete video-to-text synchronization
and exhibit indexing and linking.
DuPont recognized Alderson’s commitment to technology with its 2002 “Meeting the
Challenge” award for Alderson’s online transcript and exhibit repository which saved
more than $40,000 in one case alone.
In 2003, Arnold & Porter, LLP named Alderson as its sole preferred provider
based upon its technology, commitment to client service and diversity.
Through the years, Alderson has been asked to cover highly sensitive investigations
as well as matters of great public interest. These include the Warren Commission
on President Kennedy's Assassination, Report of the Presidential Commission on the
Space Shuttle Challenger Accident (1986), and the September 11, 2001 Victim’s Compensation
Fund. Alderson’s client base includes top law firms from across the United States,
Congress and the Supreme Court of the United States.
“Today, Special Counsel® is the country’s largest legal staffing firm and the clear
leader in this specialty," said John Marshall, president of MPS Group's legal services
unit. "We plan to continue to grow our legal staffing business by entering new markets
and winning share in existing markets. We also plan to drive growth by developing
and delivering new service lines such as Concise®, our online deposition digesting
service, Legal Nurse Services and, with our acquisition of Alderson, litigation
support services. Historically, large-scale staffing firms have not been particularly
successful in penetrating the more than $1 billion market for court reporting and
litigation support services. We believe we will be successful because we enter this
market with a strong platform created by Alderson, a firm with proven national delivery
capabilities and a commitment to quality, and because we can leverage our extensive
distribution channel and strong client relationships. We welcome Alderson’s outstanding
staff and management.”
